El turismo es el viaje por placer o por negocios; también se refiere a la teoría y práctica del turismo, al negocio de atraer, acomodar y entretener a los turistas, y al negocio de operar excursiones. El turismo puede ser internacional o dentro del país del viajero. La Organización Mundial del Turismo define el turismo de manera más general, en términos que van “más allá de la percepción común del turismo como algo limitado únicamente a actividades de vacaciones”, como personas “viajando y quedándose en lugares fuera de su entorno habitual por no más de un año consecutivo por ocio, negocios y otros propósitos”.
